Job Summary
Perform Apheresis procedures autonomously in critical care, emergency rooms, and outpatient centers, including plasma exchange, red cell exchange, and leukapheresis. Conduct venipunctures, access central venous catheters, and manage vortex and bard ports while assessing patient status relative to therapeutic apheresis. Act as a consultant to external healthcare personnel, coordinate treatments with physicians, and evaluate medication compatibility for safety. Assemble, restock, and maintain supplies and equipment in a state of readiness. Operate a variable 1st shift Monday to Friday schedule (40 hours per week) with rotating on-call duties. Requires current state licensure as a Registered Nurse, CPR certification, and a valid driver's license. Full COVID-19 vaccination is required by the start of employment.
Required Qualifications
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse
- CPR certification
- Bachelor's degree OR a combination of education and work experience
- Two years of experience in medical/surgical or critical care nursing, OR-related experience
- Good vein selection and venipuncture skills
- Good verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively discuss procedures and medical issues with patients, families, and physicians
- A current, valid driver's license
- A good driving record
- Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs
- Ability to use a wide variety of lab or medical equipment
- Ability to use a personal computer and applicable software for sustained periods of time
- The American Red Cross requires all new hires be vaccinated against COVID-19
