Job Summary
Assess resident complaints, admit and transfer patients, and administer oral and injectable medications in accordance with Florida law. Observe for medication side effects, coordinate appointments with unit staff, and provide emergency medical or psychiatric treatment as needed. Complete incident reports factually and objectively, prepare paperwork for consults, and drive state vehicles to transport patients for outside appointments. Work 3 days a week in 12-hour shifts at Florida State Hospital's Chattahoochee facility, with potential 16-hour shifts and a one-week orientation including shadowing.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire
- Must hold unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse
- One year of acute care or two years of clinical nursing experience
- Must be CPR certified, or able to complete training
- Must be able to complete full orientation at time of hire
- Must be able to fulfill physical requirements of position including ability to lift and carry 20 lbs.
- Must be able to fulfill physical requirements of position including ability to remain alert while on duty
- Must be able to fulfill physical requirements of position including ability to work 16-hour shifts on occasion
- Must be able to drive state vehicles transporting patients to outside facility doctor appointments and hospitals
- Must be able to work as a sitter with the patient during an outside hospital stay
