Job Summary
Perform initial health screenings, monitor vital signs, and document patient histories for newly detained individuals. Provide direct patient care by triaging needs, developing care plans, and managing acute and chronic conditions like asthma, hypertension, and diabetes. Respond to medical emergencies, administer medications, and educate patients on preventative care and substance abuse prevention. Maintain accurate medical records while adhering to correctional facility security protocols and working closely with officers to ensure patient safety. This role supports NaphCare's mission to provide quality healthcare to the diverse population housed in the Arizona Department of Corrections - Safford facility.
Required Qualifications
- Holds a current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse within the state
- Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (AHA required)
- Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Able to work independently and in a team
- Flexible schedule and availability to work overtime when needed
- Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
- Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods
- Must have the ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Must have the ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
