Job Summary

Assess patient needs, implement physician treatment plans, and document pertinent observations while collaborating with the interdisciplinary health team. Collect health data from patients, families, and providers; perform initial and ongoing assessments; and develop individualized plans of care that integrate cultural, ethnic, and spiritual aspects. Monitor patient progress, evaluate outcomes, and revise plans as needed. Provide education to patients and families, manage pain and comfort, and assist in securing health-related services. Assign tasks, administer medications safely, and maintain a safe environment by recognizing hazards. Communicate continuously with the team and stakeholders to ensure continuity of care.

Required Qualifications

  • Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice acquired through completion of a two year training at an accredited School of Nursing
  • Current New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse
  • BLS certification
  • de-escalation training
  • ACLS (ICU, Float pool, Emergency Dept)
  • TCAR Certification (SICU, PACU)
  • PALS
  • TNCC (within first year)
  • CPI and BERT training within the first 6 months
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with patients and their families that demonstrate recognition of cultural diversity
  • Ability to clearly communicate in verbal and written format
  • Analytical ability to assess and develop solutions to clinical situations or unit problems
  • Ability to frequently lift/carry more than 75 lbs
  • Ability to frequently push/pull more than 100 lbs
  • Ability to frequently bend, squat, kneel, climb steps/ladder and reach above shoulders
  • Registered Nurse License-NYS

Desired Qualifications

  • 1 year Med Surg experience
  • 1 year ICU/SDU experience
  • 1 year critical care experience
  • BSN
  • PALS
  • Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia (e.g. CAPA)
  • 1 year of nursing experience in preoperative, perioperative, or post-anesthesia care
  • Experience in patient assessment, education, and care planning for pre and post-operative patients
  • Prior experience in discharge planning and coordination of perioperative patients
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems, including documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
