Job Summary

Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to act as clinical lead for a specialist mental health transport team in Birmingham, delivering trauma-informed, person-centred care during transfers, with autonomous clinical decision-making in line with NMC standards and mental health legislation. Responsibilities include conducting mental health risk assessments, de-escalation, coordinating with ambulance staff and receiving services, ensuring lawful and compassionate care, administering medications per prescriptions, maintaining accurate clinical records, safeguarding adults and children, contributing to service improvement, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation. Requires RMN with NMC registration, a recognised nursing qualification, a UK driving licence, and post-registration experience in crisis intervention, risk management, and multidisciplinary teamwork.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with current and unrestricted registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Recognised nursing qualification (Diploma or Degree in Mental Health Nursing)
  • Trained in First Aid & Safeguarding (required)
  • Full UK manual driving licence, with a maximum of 6 points
  • Demonstrable post-registration experience working with patients experiencing acute and complex mental health needs, including crisis intervention and risk management
  • Proven experience in delivering therapeutic, trauma-informed, and patient-centred care, with strong skills in de-escalation and communication
  • Sound knowledge and practical experience of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and associated legislation relevant to patient transport
  • Experience working autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team in dynamic or challenging environments
  • Ability to undertake and document comprehensive mental health risk assessments and care plans
  • Competence in medication management and administration in line with prescriptions, PGDs, and clinical protocols
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding principles for adults and children
  • Good level of physical fitness and ability to meet the demands of patient transport, including extended journeys
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays
