Job Summary
Part-time Registered Medication Associate (RMA) providing high-quality, individualized resident care with a focus on medication administration in a long-term care setting. Shift is 3:00 PM–11:00 PM, every other weekend required, in Portsmouth, VA. Responsibilities include administering medications as prescribed, documenting administration, monitoring for adverse reactions, recording vital signs as indicated, maintaining medication inventories and records, observing ingestion or administration techniques, ensuring safety and compliance with state licensing standards, and communicating with residents, families, and staff. Requires certification as a Resident Care Associate, ongoing CE credits, CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain), knowledge of universal precautions and infection control, ability to lift 50–75 pounds, and flexible weekend hours. Demonstrates compassion, professional demeanor, and adherence to confidentiality, policies, and procedures; may act as shift supervisor and participate in in-service training. This role emphasizes safe medication handling, documentation accuracy, and resident safety in daily operations.
Required Qualifications
- Certification as a Resident Care Associate
- Continuing education credits as required by state to maintain certification
- CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
- Knowledge of safe medication administration techniques and competency evaluation
- Ability to work weekends and flexible hours
- Proficiency with basic office equipment including a PC
- Ability to lift, stoop, carry, push medication carts (50-75 pounds)
- Understand and practice resident confidentiality
- Experience with medication management procedures and documentation
- Experience in a long-term care environment preferred
