Job Summary
Conduct patient assessments to establish diet and food guidelines, then develop and implement individualized medical nutrition therapy plans. Review medical orders, calculate nutritional requirements, and monitor adherence to adjust therapy as needed. Provide ongoing counseling to patients and families regarding special nutritional requirements while collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other health personnel. Evaluate food quality standards and coordinate with Food Service staff to ensure conformance to prescriptions. Document care plans and participate in interdisciplinary meetings, including the Nutrition Care Committee and Infection Control. Direct clinical supportive staff to maintain productivity and workflow.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in dietetics nutrition
- 1-2 years Experience in a healthcare setting
- Current state licensure/registration
- Active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
- CNSD - Certified Nutrition Support Dietitian
- Active registration through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
- Ability to comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center
- Ability to read write and speak or communicate in English
- Ability to demonstrate ethical behavior that supports the hospital's mission values and commitment to compliance with all federal state and regulatory laws
- Exhibits professionalism courtesy and excellent customer service while interacting with patients guests and co-workers
- Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
- Ability to maintain accurate patient records
- Knowledge of Enteral /Tube feeds and substitutes
Desired Qualifications
- CNSD - Certified Nutrition Support Dietitian Active registration through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) preferred
