Job Summary
Conduct thorough dental assessments, review medical histories, and evaluate oral health conditions while performing screenings for oral cancer and other dental diseases. Administer professional cleanings including scaling, root planning, and prophylaxis to remove plaque, tartar, and stains. Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, nutritional counseling, and optimal health maintenance between visits. Take and develop dental X-rays, ensuring compliance with radiation safety protocols, and apply fluoride treatments or sealants when appropriate. Collaborate with the dentist and assistants to coordinate care, develop treatment plans for periodontal disease, and maintain accurate patient records. Adhere to strict infection control protocols and sterilize instruments.
Required Qualifications
- Degree from an accredited dental hygiene program
- Current and valid state dental hygiene license
- Proficient in performing dental cleanings and other preventive procedures
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of dental anatomy, oral pathology, and periodontal diseases
- Familiarity with dental instruments and equipment
- Certification in dental radiography
- Competence in taking dental X-rays
- Adherence to ethical standards and patient confidentiality
- Commitment to continuing education and staying current on industry trends
- Ability to work collaboratively within a dental team
