Job Summary
Conduct thorough dental assessments, including reviewing medical histories and evaluating oral health conditions. Perform screenings for oral cancer and other dental diseases, and administer professional cleanings involving scaling, root planning, and prophylaxis. Remove plaque, tartar, and stains while applying fluoride treatments and sealants as appropriate. Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices and nutritional counseling to maintain optimal health between visits. Collaborate with the dentist and dental assistants to coordinate care, develop treatment plans for periodontal diseases, and participate in case discussions. Take and develop dental X-rays while ensuring compliance with radiation safety and strict infection control protocols. Maintain accurate patient records, document clinical observations, and sterilize dental instruments.
Required Qualifications
- Degree from an accredited dental hygiene program
- Current and valid state dental hygiene license
- Proficient in performing dental cleanings and other preventive procedures
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of dental anatomy, oral pathology, and periodontal diseases
- Familiarity with dental instruments and equipment
- Certification in dental radiography
- Competence in taking dental X-rays
- Adherence to ethical standards and patient confidentiality
- Commitment to continuing education and staying current on industry trends
- Ability to work collaboratively within a dental team
- Strong dedication to providing high-quality patient care
