Job Summary
Plan and deliver lessons to promote students' English language development while collaborating with classroom teachers and specialists. Administer formative and summative assessments to monitor language progress, complete daily logs of student services, and finish documentation for state and federal compliance. Read, analyze, and interpret student academic data to ensure achievement across content areas. Be available for afternoon and evening parent-teacher conferences and school events. Attend regular professional development offerings and reflect awareness of cultural differences among students and families.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrates knowledge of first and second language acquisition theory, second language learning patterns, and best practices in English language development.
- Reflects an awareness and acceptance of cultural differences exhibited by the students and their families.
- Possesses those characteristics necessary for acting as an advocate for multilingual families within the school.
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate with classroom teachers, administration, and families.
- For MI only: Candidates for English Language (EL) Teacher positions should preferably hold a valid teaching license for the grades they will serve (K-8 or 6-12) and an English as a Second Language (NS) or a Bilingual endorsement.
- For MI only: Minimally, candidates for this position must be on an approved pathway towards gaining licensure for the grades they serve (K-8 or 6-12) within three years and then obtain an NS or YA-YT endorsement within 2 years of certification.
