Job Summary
Refrigeration Tech/Trainee responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting industrial refrigeration and boiler systems in Florida’s Natural Growers’ manufacturing facility. The role requires a strong background in ammonia, understanding of safety regulations, and experience in a fast-paced production environment. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, diagnosing malfunctions, monitoring refrigerant usage, testing boiler water quality, and ensuring compliance with EPA, OSHA, GMP, HACCP, PSM, and other safety standards. The position supports production operations and requires willingness to respond to ammonia releases, participate in the Refrigeration ERT, and obtain required certifications within specified timelines. The level in this role will be determined by experience, technical proficiency, and demonstrated skillset, with opportunities for training and career growth.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2+ years of experience with industrial ammonia refrigeration and boiler systems in a manufacturing environment
- Technical trade school or HVACR/boiler license preferred
- RETA certification (CARO/CIRO) and Boiler Operator License preferred; must be able to obtain CIRO certification within 18 months as a condition of employment
- Entry-level candidate must obtain CARO within 18 months as a condition of employment
- Must pass Basic Skills Assessments
- Must be willing and able to respond to ammonia releases and participate in release mitigation procedures
- Must participate as a member of the Refrigeration ERT
- Must be able to function in an SCBA and a Level A Chemical Suit as part of Refrigeration ERT duties
- Must obtain and maintain HAZWOPER certification and pass medical screening annually
- Must be able to pass Pulmonary Function Test (PFT)
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Must be able to work independently and adapt to changing priorities and urgent issues
