Job Summary

Perform maintenance, installation, and repair work on refrigeration systems, equipment, and components under general supervision. Read and interpret schematic drawings, service manuals, blueprints, and written materials to guide work orders and oral instructions. Communicate with supervisors and departmental staff while assimilating mission, policies, and job safety aspects. Apply refrigeration and safety knowledge, safely use required tools and equipment, and complete work within industry standards. Work in shop and mechanical environments with potential exposure to dust, heat, cold, noise, fumes, and confined spaces. Requires a high school diploma, HVAC Journeyman License, CFC Certification, and four years of related apprenticeship experience.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • HVAC Journeyman License from a state approved apprenticeship program
  • CFC Certification Required
  • 4 years related work experience as obtained through the completion of an apprenticeship program
  • Knowledge of refrigeration theory, techniques, codes, procedures and materials
  • Knowledge of safety rules, procedures and practices, including the proper use of safety equipment as defined by OSHA and industry standards
  • Ability to use all types of tools and equipment normally used in the refrigeration trade including specialized equipment such as refrigerant recovery systems, powered portable, bench and hand tools (such as drills, grinders, compressed air), as well as non-powered hand tools
  • Ability to solve problems and manage information indicated herein
  • Proficient written and verbal English communication skills, at least on an high school graduate level, to interact with departmental/JHM staff
  • Identify and avoid hazards as indicated by warning labels, signage, lights and other warning devices
  • Must be able to lift 75 pounds
  • Must be able to work at heights of up to 30 feet above surface using ladders, lifts and equipment
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and in awkward positions
  • Must be able to work outdoors with exposure to extreme temperatures and other weather conditions
  • Must be able to work in shop and mechanical area environments with exposure to dust, heat, cold, noise and fumes
  • Must be able to work with systems which involve risk of exposure to disease
  • Must be able to use protective safety devices including, but not limited to, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, infection prevention apparel/apparatus, back belt
  • Must be able to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time
  • Must have visual acuity and manual dexterity
  • Must be able to load/unload and transport/position tools, equipment and materials
  • Must be able to push/pull loaded hand trucks weighing up to 75 pounds
