Job Summary
The Referral Clerk screens and supports patients in connecting with specialty offices based on medical provider referrals. Responsibilities include closed-loop processing of referrals, communicating with patients, insurance companies, and referral providers; monitoring referral work queues and prioritizing based on ordering provider priorities; requesting prior authorizations per insurance requirements; submitting referral requisitions and supporting documentation to specialty offices; following up on referral requests; informing ordering providers of cancellations or no-shows; maintaining professional relationships with referral providers; acting as a patient advocate with insurers when necessary; ensuring patient care documentation in EPIC and aligning with APCM workflow to meet engagement standards; providing courteous customer service and upholding La Clinica SERVE standards (Service, Empathy, Relationships, Value, Excellence).
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
- Skills to intervene and promote reconciliation, compromise and positive outcomes in difficult interactions
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred)
- One year of work experience in medical office setting (preferred)
- Experience with electronic health records (EPIC) (preferred)
