Job Summary
Complete all incoming and outgoing referrals, tracking status and reconciling overdue orders in the work queue. Assemble clinical background information, contact insurance companies for prior authorizations, and verify appointment dates with external offices. Serve as the system navigator for patients with outstanding referrals, ensuring charts are updated with demographics and insurance data. Scan patient visit documentation into the EHR and cover various front office positions as needed. Escalate routine referral delays exceeding 14 business days. Requires knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT codes, strong communication skills, and experience with medical terminology and insurance processes.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- At least three months related experience (e.g., health care setting, customer service, etc.)
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
- Some experience with medical terminology
- Understanding of medical insurance process
- Ability to understand or quickly learn about the differences between and among patients with private insurance, Medicare, Workers' Compensation and self-paying patients
- Proof of identity and legal authority to work in the U.S.
