Job Summary
Manage referral processing by tracking patient referrals to specialists and ancillary services while maintaining documentation in EHR systems like Athena or Epic. Obtain insurance authorizations, verify coverage, and coordinate scheduling to assist patients with appointments and prepare them for visits. Resolve pre-authorization and registration issues promptly, acting as a liaison between patients, providers, and scheduling teams to strive for first-call resolution. Answer referral-related calls courteously, establish relationships with service providers, and ensure all care documentation and patient records remain current and compliant with HIPAA standards.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- At least 2 year(s) of experience in healthcare administration, patient access, or referral coordination
- Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in healthcare administration or related field
- At least 3 year(s) of experience in referral coordination or medical office setting
- Familiarity with EHR systems (e.g., Athena, Epic, etc.) and insurance authorization processes
- Certified Medical Staff Coordinator (CMSC) or similar credential
