Job Summary
Obtain and handle referrals for patients, perform timely insurance verifications, and coordinate scheduling for incoming referrals. Create and maintain OB payment plans while managing medical record requests, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance for both incoming and outgoing disclosures. Routinely check physician schedules for additional appointments requiring records and serve as a representative to referring offices, insurance carriers, and patients. Collaborate with multiple departments to facilitate referrals, keep leadership informed of issues and events, and assist the front desk when needed. Requires knowledge of medical office procedures, managed care organizations, and medical terminology, with excellent verbal communication skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Two years related experience in a medical practice in insurance processing and follow up
- Knowledge of medical office procedures
- Knowledge of managed care organizations and insurance carriers' requirements of pre-notification of medical services
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
- Knowledge of computer and job-related software
- Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations
- Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations
