Referral Coordinator

Job Summary
Coordinate referral appointments by scheduling initial and follow-up visits with specialists and imaging facilities upon receipt of referral orders. Manage incoming patient referrals, solve scheduling problems, and provide clinical information to ensure timely approvals from review organizations and insurance carriers. Assist patients in navigating healthcare systems by addressing financial, social, or transportation barriers and acting as a system navigator for questions and concerns. Maintain accurate documentation of patient clinical backgrounds and referral needs while adhering to HIPAA regulations and carrier requirements.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 1 year of experience processing referrals, as an MA or other clinical/front desk experience
- Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations
- Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in English
- Ability to type at least 40 WPM
- Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel
- Proficiency with the ability to problem solve, multitask, and carry out instructions
- Ability to work effectively within role independently and with other team members
- Detail-oriented to ensure accuracy of reports and data
- Ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner
- Ability to act calmly in busy or stressful situations
- Demonstrated strong listening skills
- Knowledge of medical products, terminology, services, standards, policies and procedures
- Local travel between care centers may be required for coverage
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience processing referrals, as an MA or other clinical/front desk experience preferred
- HIPAA and AHCA experience preferred
- Healthcare experience preferred
- EMR system experience preferred
- Bilingual is a plus
