Job Summary
Enforce game rules, blow the whistle, and explain calls to players and coaches while ensuring fair play and safety. Arrive 15 minutes early to complete score sheets, facilitate the youth sports pledge, and verify proper equipment like goal heights and ball sizes. Maintain control of the game, keep composure under pressure, and assist with set-up and clean-up as needed. Attend all staff meetings and trainings, and represent the YMCA's mission and core values. Complete background screening and be prepared to work flexible hours, weekends, and holidays.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Must have knowledge and understanding of league rules as they apply to the sport being played
- Must be willing to regularly work flexible hours, weekends and holidays
- Must complete successful background screening, which includes criminal and drug screening
- Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting
- The employee must be able to perform medium work: exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
- The employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures
- Must be capable of working under pressure in a somewhat disruptive environment
Desired Qualifications
- 1-3 years' experience as a youth referee/official
- Previous customer service experience
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent follow through actions regarding communication
- Desire and ability to work with people of all ages
- Demonstrated responsibility and dependability
- Must exhibit patience, sensitivity and understanding
