Job Summary
Manage and direct grading crews for site work, paving, and utilities by planning, coordinating, and assigning daily tasks to ensure projects complete safely, efficiently, and on schedule. Supervise equipment maintenance, lubrication, and housekeeping while implementing environmental, health, and safety regulations. Interpret plans, set and check grades, and analyze trucking requirements to track costs and maintain daily records of project facts and work quantities. Communicate with the Department of Transportation, customers, employees, and subcontractors. Instruct and train workers, recognize potential problems before breakdowns, and work safely in loud, outdoor conditions with moving mechanical parts.
Required Qualifications
- Five or more years of experience in roadway and site construction
- Knowledge of traffic control standards
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Sense of urgency and ability to respond to changing situations
- Knowledge of and ability to operate grading equipment such as Excavators, Dozers, Loaders, etc.
- Ability and willingness to travel and work away from home for extended periods
- Must be able to communicate fluently in the English language, both verbally and in written form
- Must possess a valid, current driver's license
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to climb onto and up and down several times a day
- Must withstand vibration from job site conditions as well as noise from other equipment
- Must be able to use arms, hands, and feet in repetitive motions
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Employees must have 20/40 vision, either naturally or with corrective lenses
- Hearing should be excellent or corrected by audio device
- Must regularly be exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration
- Must be frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles
- Must be occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; and chemicals
- Noise level in the work environment is usually loud
Desired Qualifications
- GPS experience (preferred; not required)
