Recycle Supervisor

Job Summary
Supervise and lead recycling staff, including training, scheduling, and performance management for residential and commercial customers in Copperas Cove. Oversee the collection, sorting, processing, and disposal of recyclable materials while ensuring compliance with Municipal Solid Waste rules, City Ordinances, and federal regulations. Monitor and maintain recycling equipment, arrange repairs, and maintain automated single stream routes. Prepare reports on volumes, operational issues, and safety incidents; conduct regular safety meetings and inspections. Resolve operational problems, customer complaints, and citizen inquiries within scope of authority. Collaborate with material recycling facilities, government agencies, and community organizations to implement continuous improvement initiatives. May operate heavy motorized equipment such as recycle trucks at the Transfer Station. Estimate and monitor revenues for the recycling program as part of the budget process. Maintain inventory of container assets and support maintenance with the Fleet Services Division.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduation or GED equivalent
- Three (3) years' experience in solid waste operations
- Valid State Class "B" CDL Driver's License
- Knowledge of applicable policies, laws, and regulations affecting solid waste utility activities
- Knowledge of State and Federal Regulations regarding Solid Waste Collection and disposal
- Knowledgeable in the safe operation of heavy motorized equipment in relation to Texas Motor Vehicle Codes
- Knowledge in training personnel on safe and efficient methods of refuse collection, and supervise the operation of heavy equipment
- Knowledge of budgeting and purchasing
- Knowledge of City geography
- Knowledge of principles, practices, methods, and equipment applicable to modern solid waste utility management
- Skill in operating and supervising the use of all listed tools and equipment
- Ability to supervise others
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize jobs
- Ability to understand and follow written/oral instructions
- Ability to supervise and motivate employees and to maintain effective working relationships with the public, other departments and personnel
- Ability to perform a full range of physical efforts and to maintain the standards required for the execution of duties and to perform during adverse and stressful conditions
- Must be able to follow directions
- Must be able to lift and/or move over 50 pounds
- Must be able to work well with others and have a good/pleasant attitude
- Regular and timely attendance
Desired Qualifications
- Associate degree
- At least one (1) year of experience in a supervisory capability
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience
