Job Summary
Recreational Therapist on an interdisciplinary treatment team providing individualized recreation and activity therapies to maximize patients’ physical, intellectual, and social functioning. Responsibilities include coordinating care with treatment team, documenting progress notes, facilitating individual and group activities, utilizing therapeutic interventions (recreation, movement, art, music, psychoeducation), crisis intervention and de-escalation, linking patients to services per the Individualized Service Plan, making collateral contacts to support community adjustment, and ensuring a warm, safe environment during emergency stabilization services. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation or related field, 1 year of behavioral health experience, QMHP eligibility/registration within 6 months, BLS certification, and preferably CTRS certification. Weekend-only, on-site position in Chesapeake, VA.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in therapeutic recreation or related field
- 1 year of experience working with behavioral health diagnoses
- QMHP eligible, defined by the Virginia Board of Counseling
- Must be fully QMHP registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling within 6 months of hire
- BLS Certification required (or must complete within 90 days of hire)
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) Certification is preferred
