Job Summary
Design appropriate recreation and activity therapies using assessment data, then plan and develop activities aligned with consumer rehabilitation needs. Facilitate and co-facilitate therapy groups while implementing planned activities and providing ongoing monitoring and interaction. Teach necessary transition skills to less restrictive settings and assist with special facility events like talent shows. Recognize crisis states to deescalate or resolve situations, applying seclusion and restraint per policy as required. Collaborate with the treatment team and outside sources to deliver services while documenting consumer problems, treatment goals, and services in a timely, clear manner. Maintain current certifications, attend required workshops, and participate in performance improvement activities and AltaPointe committees. Treat consumers with care, dignity, and compassion while respecting privacy and confidentiality.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge in child/adolescent and adult specialties
- Knowledge of psychiatric disorders in child/adolescent and adult populations
- Basic Knowledge of growth and development of child/adolescent and adult consumers as related to all intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and physical aspects of the consumers' development
- Knowledge of cultural diversity
- Knowledge of behavior management, crisis intervention and interventions common to acute psychotic consumers, as well as to non-violent crisis intervention practices
- Knowledge of Psychiatric Rehabilitation principles
- Knowledge of available community resources
- Knowledge of educational methods appropriate to children/adolescents and adults with severe and persistent psychiatric disorders
- Knowledge of therapeutic activities (i.e. recreation and leisure, expressive arts)
- Ability to recognize the elements of a crisis state and know how to deescalate or resolve the situation
- Ability to apply seclusion and restraint per AltaPointe Policy and Procedure, as required
- Ability to effectively collaborate with the treatment team members and outside sources in the delivery of services
- Ability to adhere to professional code of ethics
- Ability to effectively demonstrate the application of child/adolescent and adult specific competencies
- Ability to seek clinical supervision and consultation as needed
- Ability to accept and employ suggestions for improvement
- Ability to actively work to enhance skills

- Ability to frequently stand, sit, and walk which are in bursts of 5 to 10 minutes
- Ability to occasionally forward bend from the hips while kneeling to reach to the side
- Ability to occasionally assume a full squat/lunge from a standing position
- Ability to occasionally maintain back extension while being on stomach with one's own body weight on hips and legs
- Ability to occasionally put one's own body weight on one knee and one elbow on the same side of one's body
- Ability to occasionally kneel and reach to same side toward the floor
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally during shift
- Strong grasp needed to use keys to open doors throughout the facility, and to maintain constant contact with a consumer during a take down procedure or with other hold techniques
- Ability to push/pull force up to 25 pounds occasionally during a shift
- Ability to be available for weekend shifts
- Ability to work part time
