Job Summary
Recreational Activities Specialist II at the Central Oklahoma Juvenile Center in Tecumseh, OK, supervising athletic events and overseeing recreation periods. Responsibilities include planning, organizing and conducting leisure-time and physical education activities; directing group activities to develop teamwork, interpersonal skills and fair play; supervising and instructing indoor and outdoor athletic events; teaching physical education and hygiene; participating in equipment procurement and facility needs; and upholding confidentiality and agency standards. Requires education in physical education or related field, one year of related experience for Level II, and the ability to obtain Deep Water Lifeguard Certification within 1 year. Must hold a valid Oklahoma driver’s license and pass OSBI and FBI background checks; a 12-month trial period may apply; safety-sensitive designation may apply in some roles.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in physical education, recreation, recreational therapy, or a closely related field (Level II) or equivalent combination of education and experience
- One year of experience in instructing/directing a community service or recreational program (Level II)
- Obtain Deep Water Lifeguard Certification through a state-approved vendor within 1 year of hire
- Valid Oklahoma driver's license for operating state-owned vehicles
- Must be able to pass OSBI and FBI background checks
- Ability to multi-task in a demanding environment and maintain confidentiality
