Job Summary
Develop and implement creative therapeutic recreation programs that promote group interaction and assist clients in developing leisure-related skills. Maintain an assigned caseload by evaluating, planning, and modifying interventions while providing functional supervision to volunteers and students. Coordinate program planning, education for staff and the community, and ensure accurate documentation of daily and monthly statistics. Respond to team inquiries, provide back-up coverage for hospital-wide events, and participate in clinical evaluations and advanced practices. Adhere to safety standards by identifying hazards and reporting deficiencies in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act. Pursue continuous professional development through Rec. Therapy PSIC and maintain relevant certifications.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation and Leisure studies with a major/emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation or Bachelor's degree in a related field (Kinesiology, Physical Education, Psychology or Health Studies)
- Post-diploma in Therapeutic Recreation
- Membership in either a Provincial, National, State or International Therapeutic Recreation Professional Association
- R/TRO designation
- Eligibility for Certification (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist - CTRS)
- Basic Cardiac Life Support – Level C, Healthcare Provider
- Minimum of 2 years experience in the practice of Therapeutic Recreation
- Expertise in planning, implementation and evaluation of Therapeutic Recreation interventions
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Sound judgment and ability to work independently and in a team setting

- Current UHN employees must have successfully completed their probationary period, have a good employee record along with satisfactory attendance in accordance with UHN's attendance management program, to be eligible for consideration
