Job Summary
Plan, direct, and implement activity therapy programs as a component of the patient's treatment plan. Complete activity assessments through observation and interviews to determine patient needs, skills, and interests. Facilitate and lead sessions in therapeutic leisure skills, sports, dance, music, and relaxation techniques to improve mental and physical well-being. Help patients learn social skills for independence and modify activities to suit specific group needs. Engage patients in exercise, games, and community outings while maintaining a positive, empathetic attitude and prioritizing patient safety. Obtain CTRS certification or relevant specialty certification and CPR/de-escalation training. Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation required with three years of healthcare experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy or related field
- Three or more years' experience in recreation in a healthcare setting with knowledge of patient population served by the facility
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or currently in the process of obtaining national certification
- certified in the area of specialty (Art, Dance, Music, etc.)
- clinical professional licensure (LCPC, LPC, etc.) with certification in expressive therapy area
- CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification
