Job Summary
Recreation Therapist in an acute psychiatric facility develops and implements recreational activity programs to stimulate cognitive function, promote socialization, and support self-regulation. Responsible for planning and posting monthly activity schedules, documenting group notes and patient participation, offering alternative activities as needed, maintaining resources and safety, training staff, conducting timely recreational assessments within state requirements (generally 72 hours from admission), and collaborating with the treatment team to formulate SMART goals and foster a positive, patient-centered care environment. Requires Certification in Recreation Therapy with CTRS strongly preferred, a bachelor’s degree or higher, CPR, and the ability to work with psychiatric inpatients.
Required Qualifications
- Certification in Recreation Therapy
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) strongly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in related field such as Sociology, Psychology, Social Services with at least two years’ experience with psychiatric patients in an inpatient setting preferred
- Current CPR
- Handle with Care (will be provided if not current)
