Job Summary
Assess patients using observation, interviews, and performance testing to identify strengths and limitations in cognitive, emotional, social, behavioral, and physical functioning. Develop individualized treatment plans with measurable goals and design interventions tailored to children with neurodevelopmental, developmental, and complex medical needs. Implement therapeutic activities to improve functional independence, emotional regulation, and leisure participation while evaluating progress and modifying approaches based on clinical response. Collaborate with physicians, nursing, and the interdisciplinary team to participate in treatment and discharge planning, engaging families in assessment and resource connection. Document assessments, progress notes, and discharge summaries accurately. Provide clinical supervision to therapy assistants and interns.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Recreational Therapist (CTRS) credential through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC)
- Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Nexus-approved Nonviolent Crisis Intervention/CPI/SAMA certification
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Recreational Therapy from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of one year of recreational therapy experience
- Tuberculosis screening completed in accordance with facility requirements
- Must maintain all required licenses and certifications in good standing throughout employment
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with children or adolescents with neurodevelopmental or developmental disabilities
- Experience with populations including autism, intellectual/developmental disabilities, neurological conditions, behavioral challenges, cognitive impairments, or complex rehabilitative needs
- Experience in an inpatient hospital, pediatric rehabilitation, behavioral health, residential treatment, or similar multidisciplinary setting
