Job Summary
Design, plan, and conduct recreational programs for residents, including sports, fitness, and performing arts, while promoting self-development, pro-social behavior, healthy living, and life skills. Collaborate with Youth Development staff to help youth solve problems, develop constructive relationships, and implement the Sanctuary Model and Missouri Approach. Manage events, coordinate with community providers and the GSS Development Department, ensure proper care and procurement of supplies, provide safe transportation for residents, attend mandatory ACS and GSS trainings, and work with the clinical team to integrate life-skills activities into schedules. Use Sanctuary Model tools and commitments to maintain a non-violent, trauma-sensitive culture, and participate in team meetings and organizational planning. 40-hour weekly schedule with some evenings/weekends, located in Brooklyn, NY.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma required
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree plus two years of experience preferred
- Valid New York State driver’s license required
- Demonstrated competence in verbal, written, organizational and prioritization skills
- Capability to transition easily between working independently with a high degree of self-initiative and contributing as part of a team
- Must be flexible to work during hours participants are available (e.g. some evening and weekend hours)
- Must be able to complete and pass all components of the program’s chosen de-escalation and physical intervention training
- Must be capable of sustained physical exertion and have no limitations on ability to engage in necessary physical intervention activities
- Commitment to work from a strength-based, youth and family development and trauma-informed perspective
