Job Summary
Oversee daily operations, programs, events, and staff at the City's Recreation Center and other facilities. Schedule and manage sports tournaments, games, and leagues using relevant apps. Coordinate with custodial staff and the Public Buildings Division for maintenance, program preparation, and security. Supervise and evaluate part-time employees while managing time, attendance, and petty cash. Maintain membership records, inventory control, and program supplies. Communicate program information to the public and respond to inquiries. Prepare monthly and annual reports as directed. Maintain exercise equipment and schedule repairs as needed. Modify work schedules to support year-round activities, including evenings, weekends, and special events. Act as Recreation Department Supervisor in their absence when assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of three years of supervisory and administrative experience in a comprehensive community recreational program or recreational sports facility
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the desired abilities, knowledge and skills
- Ability to speak and present in a public setting
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Must pass a BCI (Criminal Investigation) examination
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Management, Education, or a related field
- Experience overseeing day-to-day operations of recreation centers or similar facilities
- Experience scheduling, managing, and supporting events such as sports tournaments, games, and leagues
- Experience using scheduling systems (e.g., RecDesk or similar recreation management software)
- Knowledge of managerial and administrative practices and procedures
- Experience budgeting, handling petty cash handling, and financial recordkeeping
- Experience in facility management, custodial coordination, and safety and security procedures
- Experience training, supervising, and evaluating staff
- Experience using timekeeping and attendance systems
- Experience using public relations, marketing, and communication strategies
- Experience collaborating with schools, committees, and external organizations
- Experience in team leadership, delegation, and staff motivation
- Experience in conflict resolution and interpersonal communication
- Experience making decisions under pressure, especially during large events
- Ability to speak and present in a public setting
