Job Summary
Assess resident needs, preferences, and interests to design and oversee recreation programs that support social, emotional, cognitive, and physical engagement. Deliver therapeutic interventions, implement proactive strategies to reduce escalation, and ensure balanced programming including cognitive stimulation and physical activity. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team on care conferences and planning discussions while monitoring resident and family satisfaction. Lead and coach staff and volunteers to achieve departmental goals, manage operations including scheduling and budget oversight, and set expectations for meaningful participation.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a Recreation Therapy program from a Canadian accredited post-secondary institution
- Eligible for registration with a Canadian Therapeutic Recreation association
- Must be able to provide a current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Record Check, or be willing to obtain one
Desired Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in recreation therapy or therapeutic recreation within a health care or seniors' living environment preferred
- 2+ years of experience in program planning, implementation, documentation, and evaluation in a seniors' care setting
- Knowledge of gerontology and person-centred care principles considered an asset
- Familiarity with electronic documentation and care systems (Activity Pro, PointClickCare (PCC), RAI-MDS) considered an asset
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to support and motivate a multidisciplinary team
- Strong collaboration, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary care teams and support a culture of resident engagement
- Passion for person-centred care and enhancing quality of life for seniors and residents
