Recreation Assistant

The Recreation Assistant designs and delivers a structured, developmentally appropriate physical education program for students in the San Diego Center for Children Residential Programs, promoting physical fitness, social skills, and overall well-being through trauma-informed and inclusive PE instruction. The role requires collaboration with classroom teachers, therapists, and other staff to integrate PE goals into students’ learning plans, provide direct instruction in physical education, health, and wellness, and foster an inclusive environment. Responsibilities include de-escalation of conflicts, safeguarding students, and supporting treatment planning and IEP-related activities. The position may involve evenings, weekends, and holidays, and requires driving students. Ongoing professional development, adherence to safety protocols, and crisis-intervention activities are also part of the role. Certifications and trainings (e.g., CPR/First Aid, SPA, HIPAA) must be maintained, and the incumbent will participate in residential program activities, documentation, and coordination with supervisors and colleagues.
