Job Summary
Plan, develop, and run meaningful recreation and leisure pursuits to promote resident wellbeing, creativity, and community connection. Facilitate both planned and spontaneous opportunities to support resident skills, knowledge, and personal relationships. Assist in developing daily activities within homes and the community, creating engaging environments that encourage meaningful participation. Maintain communication with residents, families, volunteers, and community groups while observing and documenting changes in ability to update care plans. Lead programs that maximize residents' skills and abilities, supporting ongoing evaluation of quality improvement processes.
Required Qualifications
- Prior experience working with seniors, preferably in a long-term care setting
- Graduate of a post-secondary diploma or degree program in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation or other related field from a community college or university
- Enrolled in a community college or university in a diploma or degree program in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, or other related field with the intent to successfully complete the program within three years of being hired
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in a health care related field and demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in providing recreation and leisure services in a health care setting
- Planning, developing, and facilitating meaningful activities across all domains of wellness for individuals of varying levels of functioning
- Assessment, care planning and other related documentation
- Therapeutic programming techniques and approaches
- Application of recreation and leisure principles and practices and implementation of these in a long-term care or health care setting
- Supporting others to foster a culture of resident engagement
