Job Summary
Assure consumers receive strength-based ongoing behavioral health services based on individual goals. Encourage individuals to develop evidence-based recovery plans while providing mentoring, individual and group support, and teaching self-advocacy. Facilitate groups, activities, and classes covering daily living skills, coping strategies, and community resources. Respond to crises by providing direction and coordinating with external services as needed. Share personal recovery stories to demonstrate how skills and supports direct the recovery process. Link individuals to mental health programs, medication management, and benefit applications. Maintain accurate documentation of all interactions and integrate ethical principles into practice. Participate in in-service training to meet compliance standards.
Required Qualifications
- Driver's License - Illinois Secretary of State (ILSOS)
- Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) within 2 years - Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association (IAODAPCA)
- Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) within 2 years - Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association (IAODAPCA)
- Must have a lived experience with mental illness
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively
- Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to a wide range of client situations
- Able to accurately collect and assess information
- Understand ethical standards of behavioral healthcare
- Utilize teaching/learning theories
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills (orally and in writing)
- Presents self in a professional manner
- Able to establish effective consultative relationship with health care providers, outside agencies, co-workers, and the community
- Able to work sensitively with consumers
- Able to handle multiple priorities
- Maintain composure under stress
- Adapt to a fast-paced changing environment
- Proficiency in the use of computer programs including Microsoft Office
