Recovery Peer Support Worker

Job Summary

Connect with clients on an ongoing basis to assist in their recovery, building rapport to coach and support the achievement of goals identified in their plans. Facilitate recovery-oriented events and groups while connecting clients with recovery supports and external resources. Collaborate with internal services to ensure clients receive comprehensive wraparound supports and advocate on their behalf to address needs and concerns. Document client interactions, referrals, progress, and behavior changes, bringing forward identified risks to develop action plans. Assist advocates, housing support workers, and the recovery supervisor as needed while maintaining accurate client records. Work Sunday to Monday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and Tuesday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with local travel to various Mustard Seed sites and external agencies required.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or an undergraduate degree in related field
  • Demonstrated experience in de-escalation, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution
  • Experience providing support to individuals experiencing addictions, mental health challenges, and/or homelessness
  • Ability to maintain composure, professionalism, and sound judgment in challenging or crisis situations
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing compassionate, empathetic, and non-judgmental support
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to complete accurate documentation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and other relevant computer applications
  • A thorough understanding of the Protection of Persons in Care Act
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 driver's License, and a clean driving abstract
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Must be able to travel to various Mustard Seed sites and external agencies
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced and demanding work environment
  • Must be able to respond to highly intense situations
  • Must be able to interact with colleagues and guests in an environment with moderate amounts of walking, standing, sitting
  • Must be able to respond to threats, discriminatory statements, and other insults from clients
  • Must agree to respect and not detract from The Mustard Seed's Employment Values
  • Must consent to a driver's abstract request

Desired Qualifications

  • Peer Support training and/or Wellbriety certification is considered an asset
  • Lived experience related to addictions and/or homelessness is considered an asset
