Job Summary
Organize and lead structured games, sports, and active play opportunities during recess periods for groups of 40-80 children in schools across Jersey City, Hoboken, Newark, and Morristown. Facilitate activities ranging from switch and fireball to soccer and basketball, adapting to varying age groups, skill levels, and weather conditions while collaborating with co-coaches and school aides. Actively supervise students to ensure safety, address conflicts, and promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play using positive reinforcement and behavior management strategies. Work 10-15 hours per week, 3-5 days, between 9am and 2pm, maintaining proper uniform and adhering to call-out policies.
Required Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's or advanced educational degree in physical education
- At least two years of experience leading physical education and fitness classes in school-based settings
- Ability to demonstrate positive group management and engagement through a structured interview and demo process
- Ability to work within a team environment and independently
- Up-to-date physical and tuberculosis test documentation
- Pass Federal and NJ State background checks
- Willingness to complete Department of Education fingerprinting
Desired Qualifications
- Background in school-based sports or physical activity
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications
