Job Summary
Architect a performant, high-availability real-time Plasma Control System (PCS) infrastructure and implement control algorithms, finite state machines, digital filtering, and machine-learning inference. Translate mathematical models into executable real-time code while working with the PCS lead scientist and CODAC engineers to design, test, and maintain supporting hardware. Ensure reliable, high-performance plasma operation through deterministic real-time operating systems and concurrent multi-threaded architectures. Report to the Director of Electrical and Software Engineering in Knoxville, TN, with a permanent full-time contract.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. or M.S. in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field
- 3+ years of experience implementing real-time control systems in production or operational environments
- Strong expertise in embedded systems and deterministic real-time operating systems (RTOS)
- Deep practical knowledge of concurrent, multi-threaded, multi-processor, and networked computation architectures
- Mastery of C/C++ development
- Experience implementing digital filters
- Extensive experience implementing continuous integration and automated testing pipelines
Desired Qualifications
- Experience deploying machine learning algorithms in real-time or embedded environments
- Familiarity with high-availability architectures
