Real Estate Lending Manager

Job Summary

Oversee the full real estate lending operations lifecycle, including origination, underwriting, processing, closing, and secondary market delivery for first mortgages and home equity loans. Direct and mentor a team of Mortgage Loan Officers, Real Estate Loan Processors, and Underwriters while exercising delegated approval authority within established credit parameters. Manage secondary market relationships with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, build correspondent and wholesale lending channels, and oversee third-party vendor performance for Loan Origination Systems and appraisal management companies. Develop policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures; monitor department KPIs and production goals; and lead regulatory examinations and audit processes. Onboard and coach new hires, ensuring compliance with Agency guidelines and internal standards. Engage directly with members as needed to resolve documentation requirements and support loan origination.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Minimum 5-10 years of progressively responsible experience in real estate lending, with demonstrated expertise spanning origination, underwriting, operations, and secondary market execution
  • Prior supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Proven experience with direct secondary market delivery to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and working knowledge of Agency selling guide requirements, eligibility standards, and loan delivery processes
  • Hands-on experience establishing and managing correspondent and wholesale lending relationships and evaluating loan participation and purchase transactions
  • Strong underwriting proficiency consistent with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac guidelines; experience originating and underwriting loans for ITIN borrowers and home equity loan products
  • Demonstrated experience managing third-party vendors and service providers - including LOS platforms, AMCs, contract underwriters, and loan servicers - with a focus on performance, compliance, and service quality
  • Experience identifying, clearing, and formally responding to pre- and post-closing audit findings
  • Prior experience with regulatory examinations
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding production and performance goals
  • Ability to monitor KPIs, identify trends, and drive results through the team
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills
  • Experience developing staff and onboarding new hires in a lending environment
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state banking regulations and lending compliance requirements
  • Technical aptitude to understand complex programs and applications
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to climb/descend stairs in an emergency situation
  • Ability to operate routine office equipment including personal computers, copy machines, mobile and landline phones, calculator and others as needed
  • Ability to maintain working on a computer for six to eight hours daily, on average
  • Ability to work extended hours if required or requested by management
  • Regular, reliable and timely attendance
  • Ability to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise
  • Ability to perform job functions independently, or with limited supervision, and work effectively either on own or as part of a team
  • Ability to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions
  • Ability to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities
  • Ability to exercise highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters
  • Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise
  • Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
  • Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time

  • Prior supervisory or team leadership experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience identifying, clearing, and formally responding to pre- and post-closing audit findings; prior experience with regulatory examinations is a plus
