Ready Mix Operations Manager

Job Summary
Oversee all ready-mix operations, including plant and equipment maintenance, while managing personnel from Plant Managers to Operations Support Specialists. Direct safety and development initiatives, including training, certifications, wage reviews, and performance evaluations, ensuring compliance with OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and other regulations. Control labor costs, establish production targets, and drive profit and loss responsibility through productivity reporting, budgeting, and capital project analysis. Lead department managers in short and long-term goal execution and collaborate with Sales, Finance, and Quality Control teams. Monitor new or temporary establishment processes and maintain appropriate staff levels across dispersed locations.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Mining or Civil Engineering or equivalent in experience
- Any relevant operations management certifications, i.e. industry-specific management training
- Minimum 5 years' experience running a large ready-mix operation, including ancillary functions such as central dispatch, shop maintenance, yard production and product delivery
- Experience managing a large fleet of ready-mix trucks and plant equipment dispersed across a broad geography
- Experience operating in both a Union and Non-Union environment, especially teamster and operators
- Experience with OSHA regulations and requirements
- Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and requirements
- Experience managing a large group of employees across a broad geography, in separate locations
- Experience developing training programs for drivers including driving technique, truck maintenance, product delivery, ticketing, payments and customer service
- Personnel management experience, i.e., hiring and selection, performance reviews, wage issues, discipline, and legal compliance requirements
- Work experience with SAP or equivalent ERP system
- Knowledge of office systems, including proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office software packages
- Strong leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Strong oral and written communications skills
- Customer service orientation
- Must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check
- Some positions require FMCSA regulated on-going drug and alcohol testing
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in a vertically integrated construction materials organization preferred
- Member of relevant professional organizations
