Job Summary
Conduct one-on-one reading and writing instruction for students in grades K–12, focusing on phonics, comprehension, literary analysis, and essay structure. Build reading fluency, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills while strengthening writing mechanics, voice, and genre-specific expression. Identify gaps in foundational literacy and align sessions with personalized academic roadmaps using SiSTEM's planning tools. Communicate progress and strategy with families to support student growth. Matched to students based on specific learning needs rather than random assignments. You set your own rates and retain 100% of earnings.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of teaching, tutoring, or academic mentoring experience in reading, writing, or English Language Arts
- Deep expertise in at least one of the reading or writing levels listed above
- Experience working with motivated students who are in honors, Pre-AP, AP, gifted, or test prep settings
- A track record of helping students improve reading levels, write with more clarity and confidence, or master skills they previously struggled with
- Clear, patient communication and the ability to make reading and writing feel accessible to students who think they're 'not a reader' or 'not a good writer'
- Professional reliability
