Job Summary
Reading Specialist collaborates with administrators, classroom teachers, and support staff to plan and implement quality reading instruction and interventions for students needing support. Delivers reading and language arts staff development, evaluates students to determine reading strengths/weaknesses, and plans programming for parent involvement and family reading. Key duties include providing support for students with reading difficulties; evaluating reading strengths/weaknesses; participating in 504 and ARD accommodation/modification planning; testing for dyslexia and delivering instructional interventions; maintaining records for program evaluation; supporting grade-level teams in implementing reading/language arts curricula; presenting staff development sessions; assisting administration in identifying campus reading weaknesses; analyzing data from diagnostic benchmarks; developing curriculum-based assessments and instruction; engaging in ongoing professional development; and promoting family reading opportunities on campus. Strong communication, presentation, collaboration, and organizational skills are essential, along with knowledge of state/district reading standards and related laws and compliance requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree
- Professional All Level Reading Specialist Certification
- Minimum 3 years teaching experience
- Familiar with state, and district Reading standards
- Training in district language arts and reading initiatives (preferred)
- Campus leadership experience (preferred)
