Reading Specialist (Middle School) - IMMEDIATE VACANCY

Job Summary
Deliver direct instruction in reading and writing for identified groups and individual students, with an emphasis on emergent, beginning, and transitional readers. Assess students using various measures to determine placement and instructional needs, then differentiate instruction based on assessment data. Design and implement research-based reading academic interventions while documenting progress and communicating results to parents and school personnel. Support classroom teachers through coaching, modeling, and staff development to implement comprehensive literacy programs. Serve as a liaison between the school and the K-12 Literacy Committee, facilitating resource circulation and parent workshops. Participate in collaborative instructional planning and maintain accurate attendance and grade records.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Virginia Teaching license with a Reading Specialist endorsement
- Teaching experience
- Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent
- Valid certification to meet State requirements with specific endorsement in the area in which assigned
- Good health and no disqualifying physical or emotional handicaps
- Acceptable rating for teaching experience
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Ability to lift overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to push items of 50 pounds
