Job Summary
Reading Specialist to support middle and elementary students with reading proficiency. Responsibilities include conducting assessments to identify strengths and weaknesses, providing targeted individual and small-group reading interventions to improve fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary, developing individualized reading plans, collaborating with teachers to integrate literacy skills into the curriculum, regularly monitoring student progress, and adjusting instruction accordingly. The role also involves professional development, sharing literacy best practices with colleagues, data analysis to inform instructional decisions, and engaging with parents and the community to support reading development. Requires collaboration with special education staff and administrators to support struggling readers, with a focus on evidence-based strategies and ongoing professional learning. Background checks are required; location is Sterling, MA.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education or Reading Specialist Certification or related field
- Valid teaching certification
- Experience in teaching or reading intervention at middle/elementary school level
- Strong understanding of literacy development and evidence-based reading instruction
- Knowledge of assessment tools to identify reading difficulties
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work with diverse student populations
- Background checks as required by Massachusetts state law
