Job Summary

Conduct individual or small group instruction for students academically struggling in reading, focusing on letter-naming, phoneme segmentation, and comprehension strategies. Design interventions and lesson plans based on progress-monitoring data, assisting teachers in diagnosing strengths and weaknesses to match appropriate techniques. Collaborate with classroom teachers, curriculum committees, and administrators to implement the school reading program and coordinate instruction with the total curriculum. Monitor student progress, report performance, and keep parents informed regarding program purposes and outcomes. Consult on textbook selection, vocabulary development, and supplementary materials while promoting interest in reading.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Reading, English or related field
  • Master's degree
  • Valid New Jersey School Certification in English (k-8 or 9-12)
  • Demonstrated success in supporting underserved populations
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, families, staff and community
  • Successful in creating collaborative relationships or coalitions
  • Commitment to OYN school model and implementation with fidelity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including use of office productivity software
  • Robust analytical skills, with an ability to use data to drive student achievement
  • Capacity to personalize students through differentiation, including use of technology
  • Required criminal history background check
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status
  • NJ residency

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiar with the RTI process and Tier'd Instruction
