Job Summary
Reader Services Librarian with a part-time schedule (~24 hours/week) focusing on reference work and readers’ advisory within the Front Desk Team. Responsibilities include answering scholarly reference questions in person, by phone, and email; assisting members and researchers with catalog and online resources; leading discussions; promoting library services and membership information; contributing to social media; assisting in collection selection and maintenance; and supporting circulation duties. Requires Master’s in library science, experience as a reference librarian, familiarity with library systems, and ability to work evenings and Saturdays; physical tasks include lifting up to 30 lbs. Salary range $23–$24/hour, with benefits and a diverse, inclusive work environment at the Boston Athenaeum.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in information and/or library science from an ALA-accredited school, or equivalent degree.
- Experience as reference librarian working with both circulating and special collections materials.
- Schedule regularly includes evenings and Saturdays.
- Able to lift boxes and books, push carts, climb ladders, sit or stand at desk for long periods.
