Job Summary
Plan and align instruction with the NC Standard Course of Study and Read to Achieve Reading Camp curriculum to accelerate student reading performance. Deliver differentiated instruction and analyze student data from Individual Participant Profile Forms to plan small group sessions. Create a conducive learning environment while maintaining attendance, monitoring progress, and administering portfolio passages as outlined in Read to Achieve Guidelines. Interact effectively with students, staff, parents, and administration to support the summer camp. Comply with all WCPSS policies and copyright laws regarding resource distribution.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of current principles, practices, and trends in the areas of elementary education and reading
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps
- Critical thinking skills
- Effective time management skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools
- Ability to teach reading to elementary aged students
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, and the community
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university
- Two years of experience as an elementary education teacher
- Demonstrated student outcomes in reading proficiency or an improvement of difficulties with reading development
- Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator's License in elementary education or special education
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in reading, elementary education, or special education
- Familiarity with Wake County Public School System's (WCPSS) K-5 assessments, curriculum, and guided reading
- Experience teaching strategy groups, writing, and use of data within mCLASS
