Job Summary
Engage students in instructional activities, reinforce learning of assigned materials, and provide explicit instruction to small groups. Assist teachers in modifying instructional materials, administering tests, and collecting data related to IEP objectives. Perform personal hygiene functions including bathing, feeding, and toileting, and deliver medically related services such as catheter cleaning and CPR following training. Support classroom management, supervise students during meals and assemblies, and operate specialized equipment for Braille transcribing or mobility transfers. Maintain classroom supplies, file instructional materials, and follow district safety protocols. Work 187 calendar days with a salary range of $23,932 to $32,045 based on experience.
Required Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent (GED)
- Eligible for appropriate paraprofessional certification
- Demonstrate interest in and aptitude for work to be performed
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Able to maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders
- Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task activities
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Perform the following personal hygiene functions when assigned per students' needs: bathing/cleaning; clothes changing; diapering; feeding; maintaining facial hair; maintaining menstrual hygiene; maintaining nasal hygiene; and toileting and/or toilet training
- Perform the following medically related services when assigned per students' needs, following training by a nurse: cleaning catheter; tube-feeding; suctioning; lifting/transferring (minimum of 50 lbs); monitoring seizure activity; and performing cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Perform the following physical/behavioral management procedures when assigned per students' needs: administering therapeutic holds; administering physical restraints; monitoring scheduled reinforcement; monitoring students who are in isolation; escorting for students with visual impairments (Orientation & Mobility); and transferring students in wheelchairs and/or other mobility devices
- Perform the following specialized services when assigned per students' needs: transcribing Braille; monitoring augmentative communication devices; utilizing facilitated communication; and supervising students during community-based instruction
- Maintain emotional control under stress
