Job Summary

Guide inbound and outbound airplanes to and from gates while transporting, lifting, loading, and unloading passenger baggage, cargo, and mail. Safeguard materials from weather, loss, theft, and damage, then clean aircraft cabins and stock them with supplies. Operate heavy equipment such as pushback tugs, lift trucks, and belt loaders to move luggage, tow planes, and refill water tanks and lavatories. Receive and record customer baggage and freight, pick up vital property including wheelchairs and live animals, and complete associated paperwork. Follow safety protocols, report hazards, and complete required training while working flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Required Qualifications

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess a high school diploma, GED, or work experience equivalent
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must have authorization to work in Canada as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) of 2001
  • Must complete ramp and SIDA training to obtain airport authority identification security
  • Be able to secure a Customs Seal through the respective governing agency
  • Must be able to lift / carry / push / pull and move items 70 pounds (32 kg) or more on a regular basis and repetitively lift items weighing 40 to 50 pounds on raised surfaces
  • Must be able to carry heavy items up and down narrow jetway stairs
  • Must be able to walk, climb, bend, kneel, crawl, and stoop on a frequent basis and for extended periods
  • Must be able to work in cramped or high places
  • Must be able to be alerted to moving vehicles or aircraft and use radio equipment to communicate with crew and airport authorities
  • Must be able to work outside in all types of weather, around jet and machinery noises
  • Be willing to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Good Communication Skills – ability to communicate information and instructions verbally and/or via radio equipment effectively in a professional manner with the flight crew, gate agents, and other ground crew
  • Basic math skills: ability to calculate weight and balance calculations for planes
  • Computer skills: ability to use computer systems to track cargo and baggage
  • Problem-solving skills: ability to troubleshoot issues during loading and unloading
  • Time management skills: ability to manage their time effectively to complete tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Fully understand AGI Health & Safety and Security policies
  • Attend training courses as may be required by AGI
