Job Summary

Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) responsible for on-track protection and job-site coordination on live railroad tracks. Duties include radio communications with train dispatchers and engineers, ensuring work groups are clear of limits during train movements, granting permission for trains and on-track equipment to proceed, leading daily safety briefings, preparing and submitting electronic forms (job setup, daily reports, invoices), handling signs and derail devices weighing 15–90 pounds, participating in recurring safety classes, maintaining open communication with RWIC supervisors, upholding integrity and respect, and adhering to policies and regulations. Requires RWIC On-Track Worker certification, 2+ years of track/construction experience, proficiency with electronic communications and Microsoft Office, ability to document non-compliance, and the ability to travel across California with per diems and mileage reimbursement. Required Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Minimum of two years in track and/or construction experience
  • Certification in RWIC On-Track Worker and Operating Rules
  • Proficiency with electronic communications and standard office applications (Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to document non-compliance and complete required reports
  • Ability to perform daily job briefings and coordinate with supervisors and workers
  • Knowledge of radio communications between RWIC/EIC and assigned work group
  • Ability to install railroad derail and apply locking device
