Job Summary
Provide required jobsite protection for activities on live railroad tracks, including radio communication with dispatchers, ensuring work groups are clear of limits, and granting train permission. Conduct daily job briefings with all personnel and submit electronic forms such as job setup forms, daily work reports, and invoices. Handle and place signs, derails, and tools weighing 15 to 90 pounds while actively participating in safety classes and qualification training. Maintain high-level communication with supervisors regarding assignments and schedules. Perform duties across multiple states including Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia, with periodic travel along the Southern Region and overnight stays as needed.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- 20 years of experience with the last position held as a supervisor track inspection (STI), assistant track supervisor (ATS), Foreman, or higher
- 20 years of experience as a RWIC while employed by a Class I or Class II freight railroad
- Employment is contingent upon the successful outcome of preemployment and recurring background checks, and drug and alcohol testing
- Successful completion of all onboarding and recurring training requirements
- NS On-Track Worker certification
- Operating Rules certification
- Candidates must be willing and able to travel frequently, including overnight stays, in alignment with project schedules and business needs
- Candidates are eligible to receive daily per diems for meals and hotels, plus mileage reimbursement for all billable days worked
- Able to complete required physical demands and/or task
- Able to effectively warn roadway workers of the approach of trains
- Understand the on track safety training and qualification required of the roadway workers to be protected
- Proficient in the radio procedure for communicating between RWIC/EIC's (Employee in Charge) and assigned work group
- Proficient in performing a job briefing with all the roadway workers within their work location
- Able to place railroad advance warning and stop signs
- Able to install a railroad derail and apply locking device
- Proficiency with electronic communications including email and text as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)
