Job Summary

Provide on-site roadway worker protection for activities on live railroad tracks, coordinating job sites and communicating with train dispatchers to ensure clear limits during movements. Conduct daily job briefings with all personnel, submit electronic forms including job setup and work reports, and manage heavy tools and signs weighing up to 90 pounds. Maintain high communication with supervisors regarding assignments and schedules while adhering to all safety rules and company policies. This role requires extensive travel across Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas, including overnight stays.

Required Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • A minimum of 2 years in track and/or construction experience
  • KCS On Track Worker and Operating Rules
  • Able to complete required physical demands and/or task
  • Able to effectively warn roadway workers of the approach of trains
  • Understand the on track safety training and qualification required of the roadway workers to be protected
  • Proficient in the radio procedure for communicating between RWIC/EIC's (Employee in Charge) and assigned work group
  • Proficient in performing a job briefing with all the roadway workers within their work location
  • Able to place railroad advance warning and stop signs
  • Able to install a railroad derail and apply locking device
  • Proficiency with electronic communications including email and text as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Candidates must be willing and able to travel frequently, including overnight stays, in alignment with project schedules and business needs
